About TypeSetu
TypeSetu is a small suite of free browser-based tools for converting Hindi and Nepali text between legacy Devanagari fonts — KrutiDev, Chanakya, Preeti — and modern Unicode. Everything runs on your device. Nothing you paste ever leaves your browser.
Why we built this
Every day, someone at a Jan Seva Kendra, a print shop, a typing institute, or a small newsroom hits the same wall: content typed in a legacy Devanagari font looks like gibberish when they paste it into WhatsApp, a government portal, or a modern Word document. Meanwhile, content coming in from the web needs to go back the other way for offices still running KrutiDev 010 or PageMaker-era Chanakya layouts.
The existing free converters mostly work, but they're often cluttered with ads, require signups for basic features, or don't handle both directions cleanly. We wanted something that just does the job: paste, convert, copy. No accounts. No uploads. No wondering where your text went.
How the tools work
All conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript character-mapping engines. When you paste text into a converter, nothing is sent to a server — the mapping happens locally and the output appears instantly. This design means:
- Your text is never uploaded, logged, or stored on our systems.
- The tools keep working even if your internet drops after the page has loaded.
- Sensitive content — exam submissions, legal drafts, government forms — stays on your device.

Who this is for
The core audience is people in India who work with Hindi text daily: government office staff still typing in KrutiDev 010, DTP operators and small print shops running Chanakya-based layouts, typing-institute students preparing for CPCT / SSC / RSCIT exams, and content creators moving legacy archives onto the modern web. Nepali writers using Preeti fall in the same bucket for their own workflows.
Open, free, ad-supported later
The tools are free to use and will stay that way. The site displays occasional non-intrusive banner ads in fixed slots to help cover hosting; nothing is gated behind a paywall or account. If ads ever start interfering with the actual tools, we'll rework the layout — the tool always comes first.
